Stacked discounts don't add up
“20% off, then an extra 10%” is not 30% off. Each cut is taken on a smaller number: $100 → $80 → $72, an effective 28%. To stack, run this twice and feed the first sale price back in.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a percent-off price?
Multiply the price by the discount as a decimal to get the amount off (240 × 0.20 = 48), then subtract it from the price (240 − 48 = 192). This tool does both steps for you.
How do I stack two discounts?
Discounts don't add — apply them one after another. A 20% then 10% off isn't 30% off: 100 → 80 → 72, an effective 28% off. Run the calculator twice, feeding the first result in as the price.
What's the original price before a discount?
Divide the sale price by (1 − discount): a $192 item at 20% off started at 192 ÷ 0.80 = $240. That's a reverse-discount, distinct from adding the percentage back on.
