6V
= Power 12 W
Voltage 6 VShow steps
- V = I × R = 2 A × 3 Ω = 6 V.
- Power P = V × I = 6 V × 2 A = 12 W.
How to use the Ohm's law calculator
- 1Choose whether to solve for voltage, current or resistance.
- 2Enter the two quantities you know in their base units (V, A, Ω).
- 3Read the missing quantity, with the power in watts shown alongside.
The Ohm's law triangle
Cover the quantity you want in V = I × R: cover V and you get I × R; cover I and you get V ÷ R; cover R and you get V ÷ I. That single triangle is all three rearrangements at once.
Frequently asked questions
What is Ohm's law?
Ohm's law states that the voltage across a resistor equals the current through it times its resistance: V = I × R. Rearranged, I = V ÷ R and R = V ÷ I.
What units does it use?
Volts (V) for voltage, amperes (A) for current, ohms (Ω) for resistance and watts (W) for power. Keep your inputs in these base units and the result comes out in the matching one.
How is power calculated?
Power is P = V × I. Once two of voltage, current and resistance are known the third follows from Ohm's law, and power drops out of the two currents and voltages.
